Your Bedroom & Your Heart
5 min read
Your bedroom is the most important room in your home for Feng Shui. It is where you spend a third of your life, where you restore, where you are most vulnerable. The energy of your bedroom directly affects your relationships, your rest, and your emotional well-being.
The bed is the centerpiece. In Feng Shui, the position of your bed is called the "commanding position" — you should be able to see the door while lying in bed, but not be directly in line with it. This gives you a sense of safety and control, which allows your nervous system to truly relax.
If you cannot see the door from your bed, add a mirror positioned so you can see the reflection of the doorway. If you are directly in line with the door, add a solid footboard or a screen at the foot of the bed.
Color matters deeply in the bedroom. Soft, muted tones — warm beiges, gentle pinks, deep earth tones — support intimacy and rest. Avoid stark white, which can feel clinical, and bright red, which is too stimulating for sleep.
Remove electronics from the bedroom if possible. The electromagnetic field of phones, laptops, and TVs is disruptive Yang energy. At minimum, cover them or move them at least three feet from your bed. Your bedroom should be a sanctuary, not an office.
Finally, keep the space under your bed clear. In Feng Shui, the space under your bed represents the foundation of your life. Clutter there creates stagnant Qi that can manifest as stagnation in your relationships or health.
