古之善为士者,微妙玄通,深不可识。夫唯不可识,故强为之容:豫兮若冬涉川,犹兮若畏四邻,俨兮其若客,涣兮若冰之将释,敦兮其若朴,旷兮其若谷,混兮其若浊。孰能浊以静之徐清?孰能安以久动之徐生?保此道者不欲盈。夫唯不盈,故能蔽而新成。

修道者七种风貌:豫(谨慎如涉冬川)、犹(警觉如畏四邻)、俨(庄重如作客)、涣(洒脱如冰将释)、敦(质朴如璞玉)、旷(开阔如山谷)、混(浑厚如浊水)。
浊以静之徐清——动荡之水静置后自清。
安以动之徐生——安定的局面经过运行逐渐产生活力。
蔽而新成——去旧更新。
