古之善为道者
“The ancient masters of the Tao did not try to enlighten the people but to make them simple and natural. When people are hard to govern, it is because they know too much.”
古之善为道者,非以明民,将以愚之。民之难治,以其智多。故以智治国,国之贼;不以智治国,国之福。知此两者亦稽式。常知稽式,是谓玄德。玄德深矣远矣,与物反矣,然后乃至大顺。
Overthinking is the enemy of peace. You do not need to analyze everything. Sometimes the simplest answer is the truest. Trust your gut — it knows before your mind does.
古之善为道者非以明民将以愚之——古代善行道的人不是教民巧智而是使民淳朴。
以智治国国之贼——以智巧治国是国家的祸害。
不以智治国国之福——不用智巧治国是国家的福气。
玄德深矣远矣与物反矣然后乃至大顺——玄德深奥广大,与万物回归本源,然后达到大顺的境界。
