道可道
The Tao that can be told — the essential starting point
“The Tao that can be told is not the eternal Tao. The name that can be named is not the eternal name.”
道可道,非常道;名可名,非常名。无名,天地之始;有名,万物之母。故常无欲,以观其妙;常有欲,以观其徼。此两者同出而异名,同谓之玄。玄之又玄,众妙之门。
The deepest truths cannot be captured in words. They must be felt, lived, experienced. This is the first lesson — and the hardest.
「道可道,非常道」——全经总纲。
王弼注:'可道之道,可名之名,指事造形,非其常也。
故不可道、不可名也。
' 道之体用:无名为天地之始(本体),有名为万物之母(作用)。
同出而异名——有无同源,玄之又玄——道之深远不可穷尽。
此章为全书哲学基础。
